Design Statement:

A coherent flow between the indoor and the outdoor spaces of this venue creates a harmonious atmosphere with Wanda beach, as one is enchanted by the sounds and smells of the ocean below. With connotations of Australian culture and heritage throughout, this transformative renovation of Wanda Surf Life Saving Club encourages customers to immerse themselves in an authentic Australian beachside dining and drinks experience. The custom seat designs by Sophie Davison displayed in this project nod to the Indigenous custodians of our land being named with the native language. The central ‘Allambee’ seat translates to ‘stay a while’ and ‘Akuna’ meaning ‘flowing water’. Hints of 1970s Hollywood design as well as Mediterranean design influences enhance the beachside experience that is highly sought after in Australia. One is to feel relaxed and at ease within this space, being mesmerised by the energy of the ocean.
